September 1834: During a cholera epidemic, an alcalde of Yaztona, Juan Tomas Velasco was blamed for the deaths or another alcalde’s family. He was jailed, beaten and usurped by his enemies. When higher authorities investigated the situation, there was no resolution.
November 1832: A clash over the position of alcalde in San Pablo Ayutla nearly led to violence when a mob seeking to remove Tomas Pascal Quintana was preempted by Quintana’s supporters.
After Don Valentin Gómez Farias and General José de Urrea declared Mexico a federal state, the fifth battalion and the regiment of comercio rushed the National Palace and kidnapped President Anastasio Bustamante from his bed. Later that day, Gómez Farias was declared President by his supporters.
The 1844 rebellion against Santa Anna was in response to his perceived tolerance of violence and organized crime. Detractors of Santa Anna accused him of taking a part in gambling and cockfighting while Mexico City was experiencing a tremendous amount of violence and crime. People in Mexico City rioted and tore down statues and pictures of Santa Anna. They took his prosthetic leg and dragged it around the city.
Jose Espinosa and royalist forces take back Puerto de Nieto estate in 1820, although after ten years of no central authority, and with Mexican Independence in 1821, the estate would be managed under a significantly different system than it had prior to 1810.
El Periquillo Sarniento is considered the "first genuine Spanish-American novel." Lizardi publishes this and political papers criticizing the Spanish colonial system.
Napoleon had forced the abdication of King Charles IV, as well as the renunciation of the throne by Ferdinand VII (Charles's successor). This resulted in the key factor of "legitimacy and cohesion" of the Spanish Colonial system; the Spanish monarchy then went into mass confusion and resulted in violence that would last for more than a decade.
