Saturday Aug 13th. Called at Goulds this morn
-ing - Miss Sarah sang "Why do I weep for thee"
& another that I liked very much but I
forget the name, shopped a little afterwards,
walked a little with Mrs Carrington &
this afternoon returned the Biggs's call,
but did not see them. Raining hard, so
that I can have neither my ride or walk
as anticipated.
Tuesday - Aug 16th - Received Mrs B's journal
yesterday from [empty space left in line] & found it very
interesting. Some people from Frankfort asked
me to go to the Falls of Giesbach with them,
but I did not care about it. I packed up, hoping
to get away today, but Mrs C is complaining & in
bed, & when I paid her a visit late last
evening, they had determined not to leave
before tomorrow. My German friends
had seen a good deal of Sophie Joy [?] & were
entirely disgusted with her - thought she
was a mass of affectation & [---]olly devoted
to the attentions of the other sex - she treated
ladies very rudely &c; which I think probable -
though the red headed woman who told me
